David has had a long interest in transport. His PhD and then book were on medieval roads and bridges. As a House of Commons Clerk, in 2001, he managed an inquiry on Walking in Towns and Cities, the first Committee report on everyday walking. In retirement, he is Chair of Islington and Vice Chair of London Living Streets. He co-founded Footways, which creates networks of enjoyable walking routes
